The exhibition “Be Bismillah”, featuring 23 works by Jalil Rasouli—a veteran master of calligraphy and Naghsh-khat (calligraphic painting) and an associate member of the Academy of Arts—will open on 3 Mehr 1405 (25 September 2026) at the Aseman Cultural and Artistic Complex of the Academy of Arts.
In this collection, Jalil Rasouli has turned to Surah al-Fatiha and Surah al-Tawhid; according to him, these surahs possess extensive semantic and visual potential and can connect with audiences beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. In creating these works, he has sought to express the concepts and hidden beauties of the Qur’anic text through line, color, and form.
For these works, Rasouli chose the Shekasteh (broken Nastaliq) script because of its capacity to achieve form—a capacity that, in his view, cannot be attained in Nastaliq. He considers this experience a new development in his artistic career and describes it as a further step in his ongoing exploration of the new possibilities of script within Naghsh-khat (calligraphic painting).
Commenting on the process through which the works in this exhibition took shape, Rasouli emphasized his efforts to create harmony between the meaning of the surahs and the visual elements. According to him, numerous studies were made to reach the intended compositions, so that color and form could, alongside the line, convey part of the intended concepts.
The exhibition “Be Bismillah” will open on Friday, 3 Mehr 1405 (25 September 2026), from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and will continue until 10 Mehr 1405 (2 October 2026).
Jalil Rasouli was born in Hamadan in 1346 (1967) and is among the long-established artists in the fields of calligraphy and Naghsh-khat (calligraphic painting). He is an associate member of the Academy of Arts and holds the First-Class Art Medal from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, with more than six decades of activity in this field.
Art enthusiasts may visit the exhibition daily from 4 to 10 Mehr 1405 (26 September to 2 October 2026), from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Aseman Cultural and Artistic Complex of the Academy of Arts, located at No. 47, corner of Firoozkooh Street, Shahid Fallahi Street (Zaferanieh), Tehran.
Note: “Be Bismillah” refers to the opening invocation Bismillah, meaning “In the name of Allah.”
