TEHRAN – The Art Academy of Iran has published the proceedings of the first national conference on "Children and Adolescents" Rights in Artistic and Literary Works," edited by Fatemeh Banvidi.
In the foreword to the collection, Maryam Jalali, the conference"s scientific secretary, wrote:
"Children and adolescents are the most vulnerable yet most valuable assets of any society, and their rights must be safeguarded across all domains, including art and literature. Literature and art are the eloquent language of society and a mirror reflecting its culture. These fields play an unparalleled role in shaping the personality, identity, and worldview of children and young adults. Artistic and literary works introduce them to human, moral, and spiritual values, foster empathy, nurture their imagination and creativity, and prepare them to face life"s challenges."
"However, in many instances, the rights of children and adolescents are overlooked in artistic and literary works. Instead of being portrayed as independent individuals with inherent rights and human dignity, they are often reduced to tools for advancing adult agendas, conveying stereotypical messages, or creating superficial appeal."
"The conference served as a platform to enhance public awareness and understanding of this crucial issue through collaboration and discourse on the rights of children and adolescents in art and literature."
Held in February 2025, the conference featured three specialized panel sessions with 12 scientific presentations. Following approval by the conference"s scientific council, 27 articles were selected for publication. The authors bear full scientific and legal responsibility for the content of their articles.
The 410-page illustrated volume has been published in 2025 by the Art Academy"s Publication Department (Matn).
