Timur's son was born in Baku. In 1957 he graduated from the Surikov University of Painting in Moscow with a degree in painting. In 1961-1960 he was the head of the Azerbaijan Painters' Union, then an associate professor. In 1974-1963 he headed the M. Aliyev Painting Studio. Has been in charge. Tahir Salakhov received the highest name and medals of the Soviet Union and the title of Socialist Hero. He holds the Medal of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and various medals from Bulgaria, Poland, Mongolia, and other countries. He is a member of the faculty of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts and the Commonwealth of the Independent States and an honorary member of the San Fernando Academy of Madrid and the French Academy of Fine Arts. Furthermore, he has also been elected a member of the Cultural Council of the Parliament of the Russian Federation. During the years he lived in Baku, he was the President of the Painters' Union, the representative of the Supreme Council of the Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan, 1973 he was the Vice-President of the Federation of Transnational Painters and in 1997 he was the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts.
